The opener, written out

The Branding DM

Most people build an audience and wait. Your next client is one message away, and they are already telling you they have the problem you solve.

This is the message I send them. Three parts, and a builder at the bottom that writes yours.

Why most DMs go nowhere

You get a small hit from a reply. The chat feels like progress. Twenty messages later nothing has happened, and you have spent an hour being friendly.

That is the trap. Chatting is not business. A conversation that never asks anything never gets an answer.

The usual way

Reactive

  • Open the inbox and see who messaged you
  • Ask about their weekend, their dog, the weather
  • Hope it turns into something
  • Nurture for weeks
  • Convert a small percentage, eventually

Your mood decides who you message.

The Branding DM

Proactive

  • Work from a list, not an inbox
  • Open with something specific about them
  • Name a new way to get what they want
  • Ask one small question
  • Take the yes or the no and move

Your list decides. No mood involved.

Yes and no are worth the same to you. Both are answers. The only bad outcome is maybe, because maybe costs you a month.

Who you are writing to

Every market splits the same way. Most people fight over the top of it.

The top 5% is where the competition is. The other 95% is where the room is, and the only way to reach them is to name the problem for them.

That is what the opener does.

The three parts

Every Branding DM is the same three moves. Nothing else goes in it.

1

Something only they would recognise

One real detail about them. Their group, their post, their numbers, what they charge. Not a compliment. A compliment is what everyone else opens with, and it reads as a prelude to a pitch.

"I noticed your recent campaign for your Local Business Growth programme."

2

A new way to get what they want

Name the outcome they are after and the thing they hate about getting it. Say there is a new way. Do not mention your results, your clients or your product. None of that is interesting yet.

"There is a new way for business coaches to get qualified leads without paying more per lead every month."

3

One small question

Five to nine words. Ask permission, not commitment. No call, no booking, no buying. One clear thing to say yes or no to.

"Mind if I share more?"

That is the whole thing. People get it wrong by adding: their story, their results, a link, three questions, an offer. Every addition gives the reader a reason to put it down.

Build yours

Fill these in and it writes the message. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

Your message

Keep it under about 60 words. If it is longer, the second part is doing too much work.

Who to send it to first

Not everyone at once. In this order, because this is the order money arrives in.

First

People who already paid you

Current and past clients. They have crossed the money line once, so they need the least convincing to cross it again. Shortest time to cash.

Second

People who almost paid you

The ones who said not now, bad timing, keep me in mind. Most people write these off. They are your next wave, and you already have a brand with them.

Third

People who have never bought

Friends, followers, group members. Start with the ones who commented or liked something. Coldest, furthest from the money, and the only way to grow.

Work the first two before you touch the third. It is faster, and it is easier on you.

Ten minutes a day

Finding people is not a project. It is a short routine you do once a day.

Look for people describing a problem, asking for help, or being frustrated with something that is not working. Skip anyone just being pleasant.

Ship it before it is perfect. You cannot improve a message you never sent.

Work a list, not an inbox

Opening Messenger to see who wrote to you puts you on the back foot before you type a word. Working down a list does the opposite, and people can feel the difference.

  1. 1Sent, no reply
  2. 2Replied
  3. 3Saw the document
  4. 4Asked about the offer
  5. 5Paid

Count how many you sent, how many said yes, how many saw the document, how many bought. Weekly. The count is the feedback, not how any one message felt.

This is what DM Copilot writes for you.

Everything above is the thinking. The tool does it on every conversation you open, and it finds the people to send it to.
